AIRMATIC Air Suspension That Sags Overnight

Many GLE models ride on the optional AIRMATIC air suspension, where rubber air struts replace the usual steel springs. Each strut develops a small tear or pinhole as the rubber ages, and the corner it supports settles lower while the car sits overnight. The compressor then runs longer and longer to hold ride height, working past its design until the motor burns out. Replacing the compressor without finding the leaking strut puts a fresh compressor right back under the same strain. The 4MATIC Transfer Case Whine

Power in the GLE 4MATIC runs through a transfer case that splits torque between the front and rear axles. The M276 V6 in many GLE models develops oil leaks at two predictable spots as the gaskets age. Hardened valve cover gaskets let oil seep down the sides of the engine, where it can reach the belt or drip onto hot exhaust. Further forward, the oil filter housing gasket sits between the housing and the block and weeps oil down the front of the engine. Owners notice a burning smell after a drive, and that points to oil cooking off the exhaust rather than anything inside the engine. Tracing the leak to its exact gasket lets us reseal it before the loss shows up on the dipstick.

Cooling System Plastic Parts

Coolant in the M276 engine routes through plastic housings and fittings that grow brittle under years of heat cycling. Its plastic thermostat housing cracks at its seams and seeps coolant that vaporizes off the warm engine before it ever puddles. A water pump bearing can wear and let coolant past its seal, which shows as a sweet smell and a slowly dropping reservoir. Overheating a GLE even once risks the head gaskets, which turns a cooling repair into a far larger job.
